‘Self-Made’ Tattoo Portraits
Posted by Admin in Needled on 12 26th, 2008
I’ve been remiss in not posting this event sooner, but at least there is one more week to see the Self-Made portrait show at Black Orchid Tattoo in downtown Savannah, Georgia.
The works are also available for view online and it’s a fascinating look at the how the tattooists invited to participate in this yearly show interpreted the theme for 2008: self-portrait.
From oils to pen and ink to collage and mixed media, tattoo artists like Danielle Distefano, Matt Terry, Sarah Peacock, and Jason Kelly, whose self-portrait is shown here, rendered their work in styles ranging from classic to surreal to sci-fi.
The show ends December 31st. Check it!

Ghost of Simpsons’ Christmas Past
Posted by Admin in Needled on 12 25th, 2008Ghost of Simpsons’ Christmas Past
I’m here in Brooklyn at my parent’s for Christmas and while going through stuff in my old room, I was haunted by the ghost of Simpsons past: Season 1 episode Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.
A classic, especially for tattoo lovers introduced to The Happy Sailor Tattoo Parlor and the first of many tattoos on the show.
In case you forgot this great piece of Americana, here’s a recap:
Bart sneaks away from Marge and Lisa while Christmas shopping and heads to the Happy Sailor (a foreboding of mall tattoo shops). He starts getting a “Mother” tattoo until Marge discovers him and grabs him mid-needling leaving him with just “Moth.” She immediately drags him to a laser removal clinic, spending the family’s Christmas money on removal. To get cash for presents, Homer takes his measly paycheck and goes to the racetrack where he bets on Santa’s Helper. The dog loses, is abandoned by his owner, and follows Homer home where everyone thinks he’s the actual Christmas present. Family hugs ensue. [More on Wikipedia]
I know, not a dry eye in the room after that one!
Ok, in recent posts I’ve geeked out over tattoo-related Star Wars, sexy pin-ups and now the Simpsons, so I think it’s pretty safe to come out and say that it’s actually a 13-year-old boy and not a 35-year-old lawyer writing this blog. On my holiday wishlist: Boba Fett action figures and more pix of naked boobies please.

Sex Blogger Calendar Contest
Posted by Admin in Needled on 12 25th, 2008Yesterday, on a whim or rather out of pissiness over a club’s “fashionable tattoo” door policy, I said if someone could define what a fashionable tattoo actually is, I’d send out some tattoo swag or brave my parents’ attic and pull something out grab bag style. Not a proper contest, but just think of the potential for fun there!
Well, I gotta a legit contest here and it’s way more fun because the prizes are just … sexy!
Thanks the most fabulous Audacia Ray of Waking Vixen and (NWS) Live Girl Review, I not only have a super-hot Sex Bloggers 2009 Calendar to give away but also a guys and girls sex nerd tee that I am geeking out in here.
Get a sneak peak at the calendar through this TONY article on it.
Here’s what ya gotta do — tell us what makes you feel beautiful and sexy and a team of sexy women will pick their three faves for the prizes. In case ya shy, send your reply to marisa at needled.com, with the word “contest” in the subject line and the winner will be announced Wednesday, December 31st.
But if you don’t want to wait until next Wednesday and need pin-uppy goodness right now, you can buy the calendar here for $20. All proceeds go to Sex Worker Awareness.
Smart, sultry, cheesecake throughout the year. Yeah, that’s a good gift.
